Castration for dogs

Current advice on dog castrate:

  • Small dogs can be done after 12 months.

  • Medium/large dogs can be done after 18 months.

  • Giant breeds can be done after 24 months.

We recommend coming and discussing this with our qualified staff.

Before the operation you will need to ensure that he is starved from 9.00pm though you can leave water down. Please bring him to us between 8.30am - 9.00am the following morning. He will need to stay with us until after 4.00pm.

We remove both testicles and he will go home with a small neat wound that will heal over the next 10 days.

Castration will eliminate the risk of testicular cancer and will lower the risk of prostatic problems later in life.
